Ne mosquito pas: the marathon
(EN) The neoliberal ideology that governs our society is marked by a striving for success. But this generates more losers than winners. These losers are often made invisible, or make themselves invisible. In Ne mosquito pas, performance artists question their own relationship to success and failure by working with elements that they themselves perceive as ‘failures’ within their practice.
They explore ideas that never made it into a performance. The ‘deleted scenes’, in the broad sense of the term, from their previous works form the point of departure for a brief (solo) performance in which they conjure up a negative (in)appropriate ‘second hand’ version of their artistic practice, and a categoric distinction between good and bad taste is declared useless. Lead by the motto, « If you don’t succeed at first failure may be your style » (Quentin Crisp).
For more than five years, a group of artists have been creating solos around failure, and now, during Ne mosquito pas: the marathon, you get the chance to see them all, non-stop, one after the other! On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September, they will hijack Decoratelier all night long and perform the more than 50 (!) solo’s they’ve created over the past years. 16 hours of performance, food, sleep & party!
(NL) De neoliberale ideologie die onze samenleving beheerst, wordt gekenmerkt door een streven naar succes. Maar dit genereert meer verliezers dan winnaars. Deze verliezers worden vaak onzichtbaar gemaakt, of maken zichzelf onzichtbaar. In Ne mosquito pas bevragen performancekunstenaars hun eigen relatie tot succes en mislukking door te werken met elementen die ze zelf beschouwen als ‘mislukkingen’ binnen hun praktijk. Ze onderzoeken ideeën het nooit tot een performance hebben gehaald. De ‘geschrapte scènes’, in de brede zin van het woord, uit hun eerdere werken vormen het uitgangspunt voor een korte (solo)performance waarin ze een negatieve (on)gepaste ‘tweedehands’ versie van hun artistieke praktijk tevoorschijn toveren en een categorisch onderscheid tussen goede en slechte smaak nutteloos wordt verklaard. Ze laten zich leiden door het motto: « If you don’t succeed at first, failure might be your style. » (Quentin Crisp). Al meer dan vijf jaar creëert een groep kunstenaars solo’s rond mislukking, en nu, tijdens Ne mosquito pas: de marathon, krijg je de kans om ze allemaal te zien, non-stop, de een na de ander! Op zaterdag 2 en zondag 3 september zullen ze de hele nacht Decoratelier kapen en de meer dan 50 (!) solo’s opvoeren die ze de afgelopen jaren hebben gemaakt. 16 uur lang optreden, eten, slapen & feesten!
